How often do you snuggle up on the couch to watch a movie and actually wonder how much money was put into the production of it? All of those special effects, the creative costumes, and even the stunning locations where it’s shot costs quite a penny (and in some cases, more than just few pennies).
Here are 5 of the most expensive movies made: some might surprise you and others might have you asking yourself how this movie could have made the charts, the only thing we can say is both the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Avengers franchises have coughed up the big bucks to bring an out-of-this-world cinematic experience to movie fanatics all around.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) – $410.6 million
In this wild (and expensive) adventure, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) goes on a quest to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. He crosses paths with Angelica (Penelope Cruz) a woman from his past, and finds himself torn between wondering if her motivation is driven by love or whether she could be a con artist. He is forced on board of the most feared pirate ship where he encounters the notorious Blackbeard.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) – $365 million
Tony Stark who plays Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) who plays the Hulk try to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping Ultron programme but matters take a turn for the worse and the Avengers assemble to restore chaos. After the villainous Ultron emerges, it’s up to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to put a stop to his terrible plans.
Avengers: Endgame (2019) – $356 million
After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe lies in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to reverse Thanos’s dangerous actions (who is played by Josh Brolin). In a battle to the death (spoiler alert), forces unite to restore balance to the universe. Awesome costumes, epic action, we can see why so much money was pumped into making this film!
Avengers: Infinity War (2018) – $316 million
The Avengers must stop the intergalactic warlord Thanos, from getting his hands on all the infinity stones. However, Thanos is prepared to go to any lengths to carry out his crazy plan.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007) – $300 million
Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) join forces with the infamous Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) to free Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones’ locker. Meanwhile, the crew of the Flying Dutchman ghost ship wreaks havoc on the Seven Seas. Tensions rise in this adventure as dangerous waters are navigated while sides must be chosen in an epic battle.
