Little adventures like going to the aquarium have some feeling a bit anxious with regards to COVID-19 and all that comes with it. However, the Two Oceans Aquarium is here to ease your mind and inspire it by bringing the seas to our screens.
Now, you can sail through marine life from the safety of your sofa!
The Aquarium Foundation is offering monthly subscriptions for just R100. It’s called ‘Crew’, and here’s how the ship runs.
Mini Crew
Aimed at 3-7-year-old enthusiasts to teach all things marine life through “Spunky Sea Stories,” which is essentially a very cute puppet show. They also offer a ‘Fit Fishies’ factor to keep the mini crew active.
The Cool Crew and Pro Crew
This one is geared towards teens and adults (the former for ages 8-12 and the latter for anyone older than 13). These subscriptions are different mainly in how the ocean’s stories are presented.‘Fit Fishies’ is substituted with wonderful webinars and episode stories about the ocean, as well as Q&A’s with an exception.
The subscriptions focus on a different animal every month, and this April the Cape Fur Seal steals the spotlight.
Given that these friends are so close to home, there’s a lot we can and should do, and learning about them isn’t a bad harbour to set sail from.
As the Two Oceans Aquarium states, “many of the seals in the harbour have straps or nooses cutting into their necks,” which, when left unattended can cause awful wounds, killing the seals.
Focusing on these fellas is not only educational for us, but also a way to inspire awareness amongst all ages.
