You know when you’re so excited and you can’t even contain yourself? Well, that’s how I felt when I was told I’m reviewing the Tevin Campbell concert at GrandWest last Friday. I mean, we’re talking about Tevin Campbell here. A renowned international R&B singer and songwriter.
Firstly, I’d like to admit that it was my first time at a concert of any kind, and I’m glad it was Tevin Campbell’s. The singer made sure he kept to the nature of his music; sweet and smooth. He also made us dance with his pop music pieces. The bar was right next door, which explains why there weren’t too many people who were too shy to dance.
Speaking of dancing, the 39-year-old made the women go crazy with his sexy dance moves. I think I felt my head spin a little bit too. Okay, maybe more than I’d like to admit. This explains why he sang everyone’s favourite song, ‘I’m Ready’. He really was prepared to blow the crowd away.
My sister, along with the rest of the crowd got up and sang to each and every line of ‘I’m Ready’. I however looked-on, dumbfounded, as I didn’t know the lyrics. But I did know Lloyd Cele’s songs. The Idols SA runner up was among the South African artists there to support Tevin Campbell. I was out of breath as I sang along to his hit songs, ‘Thando’, ‘Make It Easy’ and ‘My Air’.
I didn’t know who The Black Ties were until Friday. The 3-piece male South African band made us all scream with their elegant suits and breathtaking voices. I was mesmerised by their rendition of Jason Derulo’s ‘Want You to Want Me’. They made it sensual and got us ladies falling head over heels in love with them.
