These days, we’re all busy – whether that means getting through a pile of paperwork or having endless errands to run. Getting a babysitter to take care of the kids while you go about your daily grind isn’t always an option, and that’s where these five child-friendly cafés come in handy. As for those days when you actually can take a breather, they’re ideal for a family outing too.
1 Clay Café
Clay Café is an artistic centre of crafts, shopping and, of course, good food. Choose an item from their extensive collection of bisque (raw) pottery to decorate by painting, or using methods such as firing and glazing. The facility offers kids exciting opportunities to learn about design and geometric concepts by producing a piece of creative work they can be proud of. For a hearty dose of exercise after finishing off their masterpieces, they can enjoy the climbing wall or let loose on one of the two jumping castles. The sandpit’s sure to be a hit too.

This snazzy spot rests on the border of The Rocklands Road Park, a public facility in pristine condition that is home to a variety of play equipment. Take a seat on the porch to get up to date with some work or chat away in the company of friends with the majestic Table Mountain as your backdrop. The park comes alive with cheerful pet dogs wagging their tails and kids giggling as they go for a spin on the roundabout. A popular hangout amongst mothers of the City Bowl region, the eatery fills up quickly on weekends so be sure to reserve your table early.

You can admire the splendour from Noordhoek Beach to Chapman’s Peak and all the way to the back of Table Mountain. While you enjoy nature’s bounty, the kids will have a blast on the jungle gym, contained in a safely enclosed garden with a wildly popular rope swing. Do the little ones love animals? Pop over to the adjacent animal farm to spend some time with cute, furry friends.

This eatery is a superb one to frequent if you’re a health-conscious mom. They specialise in fare prepared with only the freshest produce – minus the additives and preservatives. What’s more, their menu is totally flexible! You’re welcome to request the chef whip up any meal you fancy using the ingredients on the menu. As you savour the nutritious food, your kids can have fun in the play zone nearby the outdoor seating area. This amenity is better suited to older kids instead of toddlers as a wall separates it from the seating.

Earthworx Garden World is a green paradise overflowing with an assortment of pretty plants. The little pathways and charming hidden spots create the sensation of going for a walk in the woods. Their play area, known as The Enchanted Forest, is alongside the café, which serves up traditional favourites and quick snacks. To enter the Forest, you’ll need to purchase a card but, trust us, you’ll be back again and soon feeling like part of the nursery’s community of patrons.
