A classic winter activity characterised by a bit of snow and slush, tobogganing is generally geographically implausible for South Africa.

But Capetonians aren’t the type to let an absence of winter wonderlands put a dampener on this devilish fun… Hosting the only steel tobogganing tracks in South Africa, Cool Runnings in Cape Town has made the tobogganing experience a possibility in sunny SA!

How it works

One or two tobogganers can fit comfortably inside a sled (so mom or dad can go with the little ones). There’s no slogging up any hills either. Once you’re seated, your toboggan will be mechanically steered uphill and then – boom! You’re released to go whizzing down the curves.

Have a need for speed? A lever allows you to choose the pace that you feel most comfortable at, so you can snail-pace it along or reach a maximum velocity of 40 km/h to get that adrenaline pumping!

Update

We received some concerns about the safety of the tobogganing and we can confirm that this activity is safe for the family – provided adequate safety equipment is used as with any outdoor activity. We filmed the video below to show the safety of the ride.

Whether you’re an adrenalin junkie or a bit of a slow poke, tobogganing is a fun-filled event for the whole family.
