When the world imagines South Africa, one of the first things to spring to mind is wildlife. We are fortunate that an abundance of fauna and flora surround us. Despite this, it’s not easy for city dwellers to encounter wild animals.
The Giraffe House Wildlife Awareness Centre makes it easy to access an array of our incredible African animals, reptiles and birds.
A prominent member of the establishment is Gerry, a hand reared giraffe. Did you know that these creatures can attain a height of almost 6m? This means they are the tallest land mammals on earth.
The folk at Giraffe House are well versed in educating preschool and school groups, individuals and older groups. You won’t be sitting in a classroom, bored out of your mind; this is education that involves all the senses. Gerry the giraffe, along with some other friends form part of the wildlife educational programmes that will capture your attention. The children will love interacting with and feeding the animals.
Recreation and relaxation are essential to nourishing one’s soul, and the venue offers the family an opportunity to bond in the great outdoors. The kids will enjoy playing on the jungle gyms and bouncing on the giraffe jumping castle on the weekend. Bring along a picnic lunch and tuck into a leisurely meal. A refreshment kiosk stocks snacks and beverages if you require a top up.
The popular daily animal encounters or shows take place at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. Don’t miss out, as you can meet, pet, and even hold some fascinating creatures. Please note that during the week, times may vary according to school visits.
Giraffe House makes a fun kiddies’ party venue. The 100 square metre thatched roof lapa with drop down sides is available as party headquarters by prior booking.
Giraffe House is the ideal spot to enjoy a family outing to experience and learn about animals and conservation.
