Looking for something cool to do with the family this weekend, that won’t cost an arm and a leg? Then the Mini Blue Train in Mouille Point is just the ticket. Hop on board for a fun-filled ride through the Blue Train Park, hugging the Atlantic seaside and offering up brilliant views of Lion’s Head, Signal Hill and Table Mountain from the train’s open windows.

At R15 pp for the short roundabout trip, we needed no further convincing. Shepherding two toddlers ahead of us, we ducked to get on board (the train really is built for pint-sized passengers) and secured our seats. There’s plenty to absorb along the route and our little ones were wide-eyed as we passed through a dark tunnel before exiting into the bright sunlight again.

Aside from the train, the park includes a playground with a bike track, climbing rock, jumping castle and more – plenty to keep active children of all ages entertained and a good option for kids’ parties in the summertime too.

An iconic landmark on the Mouille Point promenade for more than 50 years, this is probably one of those attractions that many people who’ve lived here for years have yet to try. Sea Point’s Rotary Club has done great work improving the surroundings since they took over management of the park six years ago and proceeds are directed back into the community, helping to fund charities such as the Ilitha Crèche in Khayelitsha.

If you’re looking for another activity in the area, visit the Green Point Urban Park, an indigenous inner-city oasis.
