The Ndlovu Youth Choir from Limpopo received a resounding “yes” from all four judges on ‘America’s Got Talent’, proving that South Africa is full of potential and that our talent never runs dry.
Made up of a group of young choristers who came from the Ndlovu Care Group in the rural village of Moutse, Limpopo, the Ndlovu Youth Choir was founded in 1994 by Dutch doctor, Dr. Hugo Templeman. The Ndlovu Care Group provides innovative healthcare, childcare, education, and community development.
“The choir seeks to deliver an experience of infectious joy, a toe-tapping and energetic South African music ranging from Afro-Pop classics to traditional South African music and original compositions irresistibly combined with mesmerizing choreography,” their Facebook page reads.
The choir has been performing in South Africa for 10 years, and their raw and natural talent has been nurtured by choir director Ralf Schmitt. Arriving on the stage to audition for a competing place in ‘America’s Got Talent’, the choir performed their rendition of ‘My African Dream’ and blew the audience away. The choir also made a touching statement to all kids around the world before they began the performance: “Just because you are born into poverty doesn’t mean that you are poverty.”
Their soulful performance won the hearts of all of the judges on the globally-popular show, and stirred the audience into a standing ovation. You can watch it below:
The choir will be competing for the million dollar grand prize, and were confident before their audition.
Look out for The Ndlovu Youth Choir as they make waves on ‘America’s Got Talent’ and the entertainment industry at large. There’s no doubt this South African choir is going places.
