Today is #WorldWetlandsDay and we celebrated the best way we know – by joining dozens of members of the public at Rondevlei Nature Reserve for a #TrashBash environmental cleanup. ??? Volunteers came from all over! We welcomed Cape Town mayor #DanPlato, awesome young people from @cteet , @hero_in_my_hood, @thebeachco_op , #TOAYoungBiologists, @CityofCT and, of course, all the wonderful friends, families, kids, and locals that came to make the real difference! Together we cleared 201kg of trash from a small inlet into the vlei – trash that would ultimately affect the hippos and birds calling this beautiful wetland home – and would eventually wash out into the ocean. #WetlandBiodivesityMatters! Thanks for the photos Helen Lockhart, @DevonABowen, Joe Carelse & @MartineViljoen. ? @ramsar_convention_on_wetlands #twooceansaquarium #2oceansaquarium #capetown #wetlands #wetlandsday2020 #wetlandsconservation #doinggood #southafrica
