The Two Oceans Aquarium is offering a free enrichment course to grade 7 learners, through the Marine Sciences Academy. The Smart Living course will introduce learners to the concept of sustainability by learning about waste, water, energy and biodiversity.
Sponsored by the City of Cape Town, the course assists learners in understanding their impact on the natural world. The course will also teach them about the importance of biodiversity and how to practice saving water, reducing waste and conserving energy.
According to Two Oceans Aquarium, major environmental problems will also be taught, as well as ways to prevent and mitigate these issues.
Other topics that the course will teach learners include:
– Ecological concepts
– Marine ecosystems
– Sustainable use of the ocean as a source of food, energy, minerals, tourism opportunities and recreation
The course will be made up of theoretical and practical elements, giving learners the opportunity to gain a well-rounded insight into human impacts on the environment and sustainable living.
