Forget the usual plain milkshake flavours. Boring bubblegum and banana, bland vanilla and chocolate. Gourmet milkshakes are the ones worth the brain freeze. Restaurants all over the Mother City are jumping on the gourmet milkshake train to bring you a one-of-a-kind milkshake experience.
Here are five of our favourites:
1 THE CREAMERY
The Creamery’s milkshakes (literally) bring all the boys to the yard. The gourmet milkshake and dessert parlour is located in Salt River, Woodstock and Claremont. Milkshakes on the menu include decadent 65% chocolate, sea salt caramel, peanut butter, sweet cream, lemon curd, toasted coconut, and chocolate orange. One of the favourites on the menu is the brûléed marshmallow milkshake.
2 MY SUGAR
When My Sugar, the fairly new establishment in the Mother City opened, everyone flocked to this sweet haven. It’s signature feature is a glass jar, in which milkshakes and even cakes are served. Sip on the wide variety of milkshakes though a big straw, all topped with massive portions of whipped cream, or your choice of chocolate brownie, chocolate shavings and butterscotch popcorn.
3 HUDSON’S
Burgers and milkshakes are a winning combination and Hudson’s shows you exactly why. The most popular milkshake is The Cookie Monster with Bar One, a cookie crumbed rim topped with whipped cream and delicious chocolate chip cookies. Other milkshakes on the menu include salted caramel, peanut butter, Oreo shakes and Lindt brownie. The next time you’re at Hudson’s, give their winning combo a try!
4 PROTEA HOTEL: FIRE AND ICE
Fire and Ice Hotel is known for being on the different side of things. If the crazy shark cage decor and city-view wallpapers are a reflection of the menu then you know you’re in for a treat. Some milkshakes include alcohol, items on the menu include the Ferrero Rocher, Aero Attack, turkish delight, carrot cake and rooibos and much more.
5 ROYALE EATERY
We all know the Royale Eatery as a picture-perfect restaurant. Their milkshakes are delicious and will make your Instagram feed look divine. The Royale Eatery double thick shakes include flavours such as Milo and fresh banana, Jack Daniels and peanut butter, Lunch Bar, choc-coconut, Smarties and more.
