It’s no secret. South Africa’s craft beer game is strong. Dirk Human, founder of the Black Oystercatcher Wines understands this, and has diversified his portfolio by buying Fraser’s Folly Craft Brewery.

Fraser’s Folly began when Fraser Crighton moved from the UK to South Africa in 2010. Our craft beer industry is quite young, and Fraser was dissatisfied with the poor selection of beers he could get back then. So instead of complaining about it, he decided to make his own.

Now he’s moving his operation to Black Oystercatcher, with all new equipment and a determination to continue making world-class craft beer. Fraser’s Folly is now the most southerly craft brewery in Africa. Fraser says this about the next chapter in Fraser’s Folly journey:

‘I’ve been brewing beer in Struisbaai for the past six years. And during that time, I gained a fantastic, loyal following in the craft beer industry. But in order to grow to meet the demand for Fraser’s Folly, it was time to partner with someone who could support this growth.’

Dirk is excited about the addition to Black Oystercatcher.

‘I’ve always loved the beer. And the fact that is was made locally made it so much better. So for us to bring Fraser’s Folly into the Black Oystercatcher’s fold made perfect sense. We’re looking forward to now together growing the business further.’

The Fraser’s Folly Brewhouse will officially launch at the Black Oystercatcher Beer Festival on 16 December.
