Borruso’s has long been a brand synonymous with great pizza in Cape Town. Ask any local where the best pizza in the city is to be found, and chances are Borruso’s will come up more than once.
The brand has a classic background with humble beginnings: what started off as a tiny Plumstead takeaway joint has grown into one of the best loved, family-friendly pizzerias in town, with branches here and in Sydney.
Riding on that success, Borruso’s Too opened in Plumstead a year ago.
In that time it – like its sister – has positioned itself as a fail-safe spot for lovers of good Italian food, with free-flowing wine and conversation. There’s no fine dining here – the comfortable and upbeat, family-friendly environment is certainly not pretentious and neither is the size of the portions.
I particularly enjoyed the originality of the ‘How to speak Italian in seven easy steps’ feature on the menu, even though our waiter jokingly asked us not to order in Italian. The staff at Borruso’s are all friendly yet efficient, while encapsulating the charm of Italian culture. It is this authentic blend of general openness and warm Italian hospitality that has ensured Borruso’s, and now Borruso’s Too, grows from strength to strength.
In the menu you’ll find pizzas with winning topping combinations, great big pastas and proven desserts. I guess you could say Borruso’s Too is budget-friendly because I barely spotted a pizza over R90. Considering you are likely to pay upward of R100 for a good great pizza nowadays, this is relatively still good value.
