To eat, drink and to socialise are the favourite things for Capetonians to do. The Mother City is a hub that is always searching for new flavours, dishes and creative drink combinations to explore, especially anything to do with artisan gins, craft beers and cold brew coffees. That’s why this year’s Good Food and Wine Show is bringing Cape Town the best of the best beverages from 2 – 4 June 2017.
Find two drink-dedicated areas on the exhibition floor, which will cater to guests who want to learn, explore and most importantly taste wine, beer, hand-crafted spirits and speciality coffee.
Amongst the various celebrated local wineries at GF&WS 2017 enjoy wineries such as Benguela Cove, Bonnievale Wines, Grande Provence and Raka, with the finest of South African terrior on show. Certified-organic producer, Org du Rac, from the Swartland wine district who will be showcasing their wines on the day too.
Become the wine connoisseur you’ve always wanted to be and learn the ins and outs of expert wine knowledge at the Wine Theatre. This year’s show will see three of South Africa’s top sommeliers – Lloyd Jusa from Saxon Hotel, Gregory Mutambe from the 12 Apostles Hotel and Tinashe Nyamudoka from The Test Kitchen – diving into the world of wine and sharing their expertise in how to correctly choose, cellar and enjoy South African wines.
The ever-so-trendy artisanal gin will be at this year’s show in abundance. Malfy Gin will be showcasing their citrus-infused gin from Torino, Italy. Guests will also be able to learn how create their own botanical infusions at home with the kit from Love-Gin.
What would a food and wine show be without craft beer and brandy? Look out for cask-aged beers from Scottish Brewery Innis & Gunn. Cape Brandy will be there too, showcasing award-winning brandies crafted in the Western Cape for you to taste.
Before you begin your extensive tastings of all the wine, gin, beer and brandy on offer, grab a cup of coffee from one of the many caffeine connoisseurs exhibitions on the day. The GF&WS 2017 will introduce guests to the growing trend of Cold Brew, caffeinated mineral water and Nitro Coffee.
Guests will also be able to explore the latest in capsule coffee machines. NESCAFÉ will be there on the day, showcasing its multi-beverage Dolce Gusto system. Savour a wide range of the latest capsule flavours, from caramel Latter Macchiato and iced Cappuccino to Chai Tea Latte, as well as browse the variety of machines on sale.
If the regular espresso doesn’t quite hit the spot for you, stop over at Black Insomnia Coffee Company, the US-based roasters who are responsible for the intense Black Insomnia – the world’s strongest coffee, with 702mg of caffeine per cup.
What’s more is that this year’s Good Food and Wine Show has partnered with the Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa (SCASA) to host the Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal Regional Barista Championships. Watch the professional baristas battle it out in the categories of latte art, cupping and brewing.
Attendance this year is expecting even more than last years 60 000 visitors to the show, with chefs like J’Something, Pierre White and Jan Hendrink van der Westhuizen on the floor. The floor will be divided into nine different exhibition areas for guests to explore – Market, Street Food, Gourmet, Baking & Cake Decor, Kids, Wellness, Lifestyle, Wine, Beer and Spirits.
Enjoy ten theatres, eight of which have free entry, guaranteeing even more value for shows’ guests. The Good Food and Wine Show theatres include Eat Well/Live Well, Wine Theatre, Baking Theatre, Cake Deco Lab, Chefs Open Theatre, Cooking with Chefs and the Kids Deco Lab; including the Chefs Table hosted at the Table Bay Hotel.
