In a province brimming with winelands that date back to the 1800s, it is strange to think that the Elim Wine Region is only 20 years-old. Still, as the country’s coolest wine region, it is closely watched on a global scale. This combined with a unique area, dedicated farmers and an emphasis on conversation make Elim a special place.
You get to experience how special it is first hand at the Elim Wine Festival. Now in its fifth year, the festival brings together winemakers from across the region to showcase their wares. Festival goers will get to taste the wines, engage with the winemakers and spend a great day out in a stunning setting.
Every year the festival is held at one of the regions wine farms in an effort to promote the region. This year it will be held Black Oystercatcher, situated close to Cape Agulhas. Participating wine farms include Lomond, The Drift, Ghost Corner and Strandveld Vineyards. Each one has it own story closely tied to the history of the region, but best of all, they have wonderful wines for you to try.
You can enjoy tutored wine tastings where you will learn about the exceptional Elim terroir and how it influences the wine. There will also be delicious food perfectly paired to the wines, fresh produce and locally made products on sale.
If wine is not your thing, you can still enjoy the festival. There will be craft beers on show, the perfect accompaniment on a hot summers day. You can also look forward to a vintage tractor parade and archery on horseback. Live music will set the scene for the day. Wine, food and fun. The Elim Wine festival promises to be a great day out.
