Graze is an exciting new eatery that opened its doors a few weeks ago in Kenilworth. We noticed it while on the way to having drinks at Banana Jam Cafe, and the large indoor vertical herb garden grabbed our attention.

As we walked into Graze, the first thing that we noticed was how clean and fresh the air was inside. I believe this is due to the air being constantly filtered by the array of herbs inside. The vertical garden acts as the main showpiece – it is quite something to behold. A living wall filled with salad leaves, rocket, basil, coriander, thyme and much more. We found that the garden is a fantastic complement to the style of food served: clean, locally sourced food in a relaxed environment. Having expected to have made a rookie error by not making a prior booking, we were pleased that there was a table available on a busy Saturday evening.

The open-plan layout of the restaurant allows one to see the chefs at work – and might I add that they were rather quiet which is a pleasant change for restaurants with a similar design.

For starters, our table shared a fresh strawberry and greek feta-style salad with toasted sunflower seeds and cucumber mint dressing (R45). As the name implied, it was really fresh and delicious.

Mains consisted of a deluxe Burger (free range truffle-infused patty topped with blue cheese croquets, fresh rocket and fig chutney served with chunky fries, R90) and the sustainable linefish (silverfish served with an onion and thyme potato rosti, mixed green salad and a tomato-, coriander- and olive-infused dressing, R115).

The food at Graze is superb – fresh and simple yet made with flair. It’s paired with great service and a relaxed environment. We highly recommend a visit.
