There’s something about food that brings people together. It’s as if food understands your frustrations, whether your feeling happy or sad. Food has mind-altering effects that will turn that frown upside down. Bad day at work? A block of your favourite sweet chocolate might cheer you up. Feeling upset and annoyed? Bring on the carbs, baby!
Add some friends to your food adventure and you’ve found a winning combination. In the mood to eat your feelings? Take some friends along on your Hermanus Food and Wine Festival adventure, I promise the good food (okay and the atmosphere) will have you feeling overjoyed.
This year marks the 18th anniversary of the Hermanus Food and Wine Festival. Each year the festival is voted as one of South Africa’s Top 10 Wine Festivals. Impressive, right? The Hermanus Food and Wine Festival has so many fun activities to participate in. Your tastebuds and wine glasses will be thanking me later.
WINE TASTING HALL
There will be over 50 premium wine producers at The Hermanus Food and Wine Festival. Keep your wine glass handy (you should eat beforehand too) because wine producers will offer wine tastings of some of the best South African wines.
This year, the festival brings you over 250 different wines so that you’ll be able to get a sense of the passion in Cape wines. It’s your lucky day, I told you that food can change your mood: Wine Village Hermanus will offer all the festival wines at cellar door prices. This is a great way to stock up your wine cabinet at home.
FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT MARQUEE
Satisfy your tastebuds and indulge in delicious foods from sweet to savoury. The Hermanus Food and Wine Festival provides gourmet food marquees with stalls, guaranteed to put you in a good mood. Guests can enjoy a sit-down meal or eat their treats while exploring the rest of the festival.
FESTIVAL LOUNGE
Bottoms up, Red Red Wine, Gin and Juice. I could reference songs about alcohol all day. (I’ll stop now because you get the main attraction of this article). The Hermanus Food and Wine Festival will have 10 brew masters presenting over 30 handcrafted beers and ciders.
For the first time ever, there will be a Gin-avaria saloon for all the G&T fans to taste South Africa’s best gins and cocktails. Wine Village Hermanus sure knows how to keep people interested: there will be an on-site shop where you can order your favourite festival wines and even have it delivered!
WINE VILLAGE, HERMANUS
The Wine Village, Hermanus opened two decades ago and is situated at the entrance to the Hemel en Aarde Valley. The scenery is breathtaking and so are their wines. Wine Village offers free daily wine tastings (yes, I said daily). The Wine Village Hermanus staff will be at the Hermanus Food and Wine Festival to answer any questions you might have and to offer expert wine advice.
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT STATION
Relax in the Hermanus Wine Festival Lounge and enjoy the live performances of local musicians. You’ll be dancing to the sounds of The Professors, Botrivier Marimba Band and many more musical artists.
KIDDIES CORNER
Don’t worry about leaving your kids at home, this festival is one of many kid-friendly spots. Bring them along to experience the festival fun. Kids will be entertained with their own fun station that has a jumping castle and other fun games.
