Summer’s reached CT. The battle between us and the heat has begun. But we have a few ways of shielding it off. There’s the sea. There are the five new spray parks opening up throughout the city. And then there’s ice cream. Lots of it. So, if you’re ever in dire need of a fix of sweet frozen goodness, then head to one of these five places.

The Creamery

cool treat

With three cafés and three regular market stalls, The Creamery is sure to refresh many sweltering Capetonians. Its ice cream is made with a range of environmentally friendly ingredients supplied by farms around South Africa. This ensures an array of yummy and original treats. Ever tried flavours such as Naartjie-Choc Chip or Cardamom-Rosewater-Marshmallow?

The Creamery also offers a flavour of the month, and you only have a few days left to try October’s The ‘Woodstocky’ Road. It combines CocoaFair Chocolate ice cream, Rosetta Roastery Coffee shortbread crumble, and a toasted marshmallow swirl. Now that’s a winning combo!

Unframed Ice Cream

cool treat

Fans of artisan ice cream, sorbets and vegan desserts should look no further than the recently opened Unframed Ice Cream. Whether served in a tub, or on a cone, their offerings are always meticulously made and beautifully presented.

Imagine walking back to work at the end of your lunch break with a Peanut Butter Ice Cream Cone. Or savouring a Raspberry Sorbet while relaxing in Unframed’s outdoor seating area. Now that sounds like a heavenly antidote for midday stress and the summer heat.

Cookies and Cream

cool treat

Cookies and Cream has been part of the Earth Fair Market in Tokai, but this weekend it officially moves to the Taste at Simon’s Market at Groot Constantia Wine Estate. And if you prefer your ice cream presented in a less conventional fashion, then it’s right up your street.

While Cookies and Cream does serve the usual ice cream cone, its delectable combinations of ice cream and biscuity treats look far more enticing. You can indulge in a scoop of ice cream sandwiched between a macaroon or two delicious cookies. Or you can try a mini ice cream cake with condensed milk ice cream on top, a chocolate chip cookie at the bottom, and a layer of caramel in between.
