Stellenbosch is one of the most popular wine regions in the country. People from all over the world flock to the area to see the many wine estates, buy some world class wine and grab a bite. Doing a tour in Stellies offers visitors a good glimpse into the different types of brands and wines the area has on offer, but sometimes you don’t want to hop from place to place. Parking off at one spot to enjoy a bottle or two of wine with a group of loved ones is a relaxing pastime and, at Peter Falke Wines, you can do just that!

Unlike most wine estates, where the tasting rooms and eateries close in the late afternoon, Peter Falke is open until 7 pm. This is especially great in summer when the sun is out until nearly 8 pm. Choose from the restaurant’s indoor seating, a classy space where you can enjoy a tasting and light meal; the deck overlooking a wonderful view; or the lawn where you can relax at your leisure. With huge trees that provide shade and big comfy bean bags, you won’t want to vacate your seat outside easily. There are also great corkscrew sculptures, a few playground rides and a gigantic chair that elevates the atmosphere even more.

The laid-back tastings are presented by highly pleasant and knowledgeable staff who not only know their wines but the history of the Peter Falke brand too! For example, owner Peter Falke is a German businessman who also owns Falke hiking socks. Additionally, this is the only wine estate in the country that imports specialised tasting glasses from France to helps unlock the aromas of the wine when you swirl the glass.

Indulge in the estate’s lovely Sauvignon Blanc, their delightful wooden Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, or their award-winning flagship red blend. Each of these wines perfectly complements the light meals on offer, from cheese or charcuterie platters to the tasty – and colourful – salads served alongside crisp, fresh bread.

Peter Falke is definitely not the farm you make a quick stop at; it’s the farm where you spend a full day.
