The Harbour House Group, which owns the restaurant, placed their consumer’s needs at the forefront of the remodel by creating a more accessible, relaxing and casual atmosphere.
Kobus Truter, the creative force behind the décor revamp says the plan was to make the restaurant more approachable. “We’ve brought in more colour, more family-friendly interiorsand added layers of décor. It’s a conscious step away from being an upmarket seafood restaurant and about making Live Bait a place where people can come in straight off the beach, with their surfboard and sandy feet, to enjoy a good meal with familyand friends. And perhaps then paddle out for another surf.”
The revamp includes specially designed wallpaper of coastal motifs, a quirky chandelier handmade from hawser rope and glass buoys, alongside vintage photographs of Muizenberg. Suspended wooden fishing boats celebrate the coastal suburbs’ fishing culture and the bar, with sea-facing counters, look through panoramic windows onto the beach’s horizon.
With parents in mind, they’ve created a kiddies area with beanbags and a large chalkboard-wall for doodling.
“We’ve adapted the space to make it more appealing for families, and the décor upgrade has turned the restaurant in a space for everyday dining, rather than only special occasions,”adds Truter.
And with every restaurant revamp, comes a change of menu too. Head Chef Ryan Daniels says even the menu is more approachable, offering greater choice and better value for diners.
“We’re giving guests a much greater variety of seafood to choose from, especially when it comes to fresh fish, and each day we’ll have three or four different line fish on the menu,”says Daniels.
There will also be a larger choice of platters for family-style sharing, which is better value for money and ideal for a family day outing.
There’s no doubt that Muzies is a favourite surfing zone, and with the relaxed atmosphere at Live Bait, paired with signature drinks and delicious platters to share – the new look is going to entice visitors to come and stay for a while. Make sure you check out the new look.
