Sotano is well-known for its breezy, sea-side restaurant in Mouille Point. They opened their doors in 2011 and now a new sophisticated, slick, city central Sotano has rolled out it’s welcome mat on Bree Street.
I find inner-city eateries and bars have a different atmosphere to others in the Mother City – they personify trendiness and envelope their visitors in a cozy, unexpected sense of luxury and comfort within the different city landscapes.
In many ways Sotano does a better job than most at creating a welcoming atmosphere. It left me feeling as though I was in my natural habitat, while sipping wine and savouring sushi and Mediterranean eats.
I was welcomed by a mosaic doormat with little turquoise tiles spelling out “Sotano”. The roaring fireplace and detailed floor design added a touch of unique yet old world charm to the swanky entrance of the dimly lit bar.
Dark turquoise accents mixed with exposed red brick walls complimented the shades of wood.
You are spoiled for choice – there is European-style road-side seating perfect for enjoying lunch while sipping sweet drinks in the sun. Or bask next to the fire-side perfect for colder nights paired with a hot cappuccino. The upper level offers both rooftop balcony options and a polished lounge area.
The wine list at Sotano is lengthy and is sure to quench ever wine-lover thirst. If wine isn’t your thing, the bar offers a variety of cocktails both signature and old favorites to please all palates.
Their winter menu is sure to satisfy with decadent dishes featuring tapas and mains, from Grilled Halloumi Bruschetta to filling Fennel Infused Pork Ragu.
As a huge Manga fan, I was pleasantly surprised by the sushi bar on the second floor – where intricate creations are just waiting to be indulged in.
To add to the list of reasons to visit Sotano on Bree, their resident band “The Rivertones” are exceptional and had me singing classic reggae songs for the rest of the week.
