When it comes to the Bree Street dining superstars, Culture Club Cheese ranks high. Owner Luke Williams’ impressive knowledge of cheese and the vast array of offerings at Culture Club are what has put the establishment on the map. Not only do you get to try different and interesting cheeses from around the world, you experience flavour combinations that are out of this world! What’s more is that Culture Club is now also open for dinner – and their menu is definitely something special.

One of the favourites is the local cheeseboard, which changes daily, that showcases interesting and unique cheese from across the country. Our board included rare sheep cheese, a smooth creamy white cheese known as Forrest Phantom, and a wonderful nutty blue. All the cheeses are also served with sourdough, water crackers and delicious preserves that are made on the premises. Luke says, ‘Cheese is and always will remain the king on our menus and diners can now join us for decadent smoked Springbok carpaccio with Bloemfontein pecorino or cheddar, and pea risotto balls with porcini mushroom dust’.

Next up: the starters. Light and scrumptious, try the smoked asparagus with local Parmesan custard and pancetta croquettes as well as the risotto balls, a hands-down favourite as the risotto was cooked just right and fried to perfection.

With cheese as the main focus, the mains are like nothing you’ve ever had before. There’s slow-roasted pork belly with roasted cauliflower purée and baked camembert – the stuff of cheesy dreams. Or try the baby octopus and cucumber salad with Forest Phantom goat’s cheese. The texture of the octopus is unreal – definitely not rubbery or tough, and more like slicing into a piece of chicken.

As a true foodie would know, no good meal is complete without dessert and Culture Club Cheese serves up an unbelievable cheesecake. Not overly sweet with a yummy berry compote, it’s the ideal end to a perfect dinner at one of the Cape’s most interesting eateries.
