Ocean Basket has become somewhat of an institution in the Cape seafood takeout world. With delicious ocean fare – from the traditional hake and chips to yummy sushi platters – and a relaxed family-friendly setting, it’s a great place to indulge in the finer things in life at an affordable price.
In addition to their share platters, regular fare has been given a light, summery makeover – their mussels starter is now doused in a sweet, tomato-based Mediterranean sauce – and the franchise has launched an all-new summer menu inspired by Mediterranean meals and consisting of fresh, healthy food choices. These include four new salads (calamari tossed with herb sauce and greens; mussels with tomato, olives and capers on a bed of greens; trout and herb mayo; and roasted vegetables and halloumi).
Our favourites? The delightful trout with prawns in a tasty Mediterranean sauce and their range of Mediterrasian sushi – Japanese sushi with a twist of unexpected flavours that include basil, red onion and origanum. If you’ve still got room for more, the Belgian chocolate lava cake is a sweet lover’s dream and the perfect ending to a good meal.
Serious foodies can head to Ocean Basket in Cavendish Connect, Claremont, which has an exclusive menu that includes the Natsu platter (six portions of sushi, including a spicy ninja varietal) and a decadent Bar One baked cheesecake that’s too good to share.
Wash it all down with a carafe of mojito, Long Island iced tea, white sangria, pink lemonade or ginger beer; or one of their new liquid desserts – yum!
