With a new look set to roll out in Cape Town over the next few months, one of our favourite – and affordable! – seafood franchises, Ocean Basket, is redefining themselves as the ‘Mediterranean home of seafood’.
One of the brand’s core philosophies has always been sharing and this year, their winter menu is taking that core value one step further by introducing meze sharing platters perfect for family dinners.
Staying true to the adage ‘A family that eats together stays together’, Ocean Basket’s winter offerings include two new meze platters and a host of innovative starters that can be mixed and matched to create your own personalised meze feast.
These include the Artemis Meze Platter − battered mussels, firecracker squid, zucchini fritters, olives, feta, tarama, hummus, cucumber and tomato; the Zeus Meze Platter − tzaziki, calamari, crumbed prawn tails, halloumi, potato dippers, cucumber and Mediterranean salsa’ a smoked snoek soup; smoked snoek cakes and chips; and Tilapia, a light delicate fish with spicy butter and paprika-coated sweet potato. The latter dish is a specific answer to the question of sustainability, which Ocean Basket places a huge emphasis on.
Added to this already delicious line-up are two new desserts, both served hot with ice cream or cream: A pear and white choc pudding − baked pears in a vanilla sponge with rich white chocolate − and a toffee nut pie − a sticky toffee and nut combination in a pastry topped with chocolate ganache (which can also be served cold on request).
If you prefer a takeaway meal to enjoy in the comfort of your home – surrounded by family, of course – dessert doesn’t need to stay behind. All of Ocean Basket’s desserts are available frozen for takeaway – to prepare, simply pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Sushi lovers need not fret either as the franchise has introduced Greek-style sushi to its menu, further emphasising its focus on Mediterranean cuisine. Still not convinced? Pepe Aneske, the 2014 World Champ of Sushi, has helped the OB team develop all the new offerings so you know your meal is in good hands.
