Durbanville Hills Wine Estate seems to be the talk of the town this season. Not only have they released a new sparkling wine perfect for summer evenings, but they’ve also begun a regular wine safari along one of Table Mountain’s most scenic trails on Tafelberg Road. The experience includes a picnic, views of the Mother City in all her splendour and a wine tasting.
The safari starts at the SanParks Information Offices just off Tafelberg Road. From here, a customised Land Rover takes you to King’s Blockhouse on Mowbray Ridge, where you’ll enjoy a scrumptious picnic. Located just below Devil’s Peak, and complete with two cannons, this landmark offers a remarkable vista that includes the City Bowl, Table Bay and the Hottentots Holland Mountain Range.
Henri Bruce, the wine safari’s impeccable host and tour guide, will share his knowledge of Table Mountain’s flora and fauna, recommending the best hiking trails in the area and recounting some of the history surrounding King’s Blockhouse.
Alongside tasty morsels of fresh bread, cold meats, cheese, olives and other snacks, you’ll indulge in a variety of wines from Durbanville Hills, such as their well-regarded and playful Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Rhinofields Pinotage.
Space on the wine safari is limited, so booking is essential. The tour lasts three to four hours and the cost includes a bottle of Durbanville Hills wine. So buckle up, enjoy the view and celebrate what Cape Town and Durbanville Hills has to offer.
