Food is so much more than a form of nutrition. It’s an experience. One of the greatest food experiences you can have is sitting in a chef’s home enjoying a meal prepared just for you. And let’s just say, unless your bestie is a chef, these opportunities are far and few between. Until now, that is. Chef Mynhardt Joubert has opened his home for Easter with his Easter Chefs Table.
Situated in Paarl, the chef’s wonderful loft space is filled with incredible light, exposed wooden beams and family photos that provide a relaxed ambience to what can only be the start of a good time. A long table placed next to the open kitchen allows you to watch Chef Mynhardt as he prepares your Easter meal.
Aspects of playfulness, magic and nostalgia – which the chef associates with the holiday – is reflected in everything from the décor to the food: cute wire bunnies for Easter time, small pumpkins that represent the change of season and a delicious five-course meal that combines the best of these elements in a fresh way.
Each course is perfectly paired with a KWV classic collection wine and you can expect pumpkin ciabatta served with almond butter and cherry jam for starters paired with a rosè. Next up is a delightful fried green tomato dish with eggs, anchovies and bacon paired with Classic Chenin. What’s sure to be a favourite is the Sophia Adonis’ pickled fish cakes that definitely brings the more traditional Easter vibe to the meal. But these aren’t just any pickled fish cakes; instead, they’re served with Moscato that enhances the fruity flavours of the fish. Finally, dig into a scrumptious free-range roast lamb tagliatelle with figs, gorgonzola, quince jelly with camembert and Easter eggs paired with a Petit Verdot.
Chef Mynhardt has created a wonderful, homely experience that offers you the best of boere hospitality and gourmet food. His Easter table is the epitome of playful sophistication and tradition, truly a culinary experience you won’t soon forget.
