Housed in the luxurious Southern Sun The Cullinan Hotel on the Foreshore, Stella CaféBar offers casual tapas-style dining in an elegant and relaxed setting. Decorated in rich shades of gold, navy and natural wood, the contemporary space opens onto a magnificent pool terrace for sunny al fresco lunches and after-work drinks.
With a focus on fresh and seasonal produce, the ever-changing tapas menu features gourmet specials such as lamb kofta with mojito smoothie, lentils with sweet potato & harissa, squid stuffed with salami in tomato casserole and the broccoli & cranberry salad. Turkish delight cheesecake is one of the must-try sweet treats to finish off your meal. I found the tapas to be imaginative and full of colour and flavour, Chef Lindsay is a man who has struck the balance between sociable and elegant food.
The drinks menu boasts the finest selection of bubbly, wines and craft beers, and the resident sommelier will help select the perfect wine pairing to complement your meal. Irresistible summer cocktails include the Vanilla Pinotage and Rosso Martini, Elderflower G&T and the Rum Julep.
Stella CaféBar at times doesn’t deserve to be tucked into a hotel simply because hotel restaurants can have a stigma attached to them about being a run-of-the-mill kind of place – but I didn’t find this to be the case here. The restaurant would actually fit right into the Camps Bay strip with its poolside, al fresco allure.
