If you haven’t found love on Tindr or Grindr, there’s hope for you yet. Now you can sign up to Fluggle – and date while you fly.

To improve the experience for business and leisure customers travelling alone, Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) is launching the first ever in-flight South African mobile dating app called Fluggle.

“After years of extensive research and data collected through SMS survey, we noted around 57% of our single customers felt lonely during their air travels,” says Andrew Stark, Flight Centre Travel Group MEA Managing Director.

“We consulted the developers behind Cuddler, an international app that enables users to find someone nearby to cuddle, and used this as our blueprint for Fluggle. We like to think that solo travellers using our app can find more than someone to spoon, however. Think The Love Boat meets Top Gun, Fluggle is set to make flying sexy and romantic once again. Who knows you may even find your soul mate?”

Before boarding your local flight, register your personal profile with specified interests. Swiping left or right, you can match with someone who has also opted in and shares similar interests. If the match is cleared for take-off, “Fluggleers” can then request to be seated next to one another if they are on the same flight.

“What better way to spend a two-hour flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town than  sharing your elbow rest with someone you really fancy. You could even meet beforehand in the business lounge or chat through our app facility before you even get to the airport.”

The first trial will take place throughout April on designated domestic flights. Stark anticipates it will be rolled out on more domestic departures and international flights over the course of the next few years with an official launch on Valentines’ Day in 2019.

“This new app provides an alternative for travellers who would like to make the most of their time in the air, especially travellers with busy schedules. We anticipate to see many of our customers walking down more than just the aisle of the plane thanks to Fluggle,“ adds Stark.

“We are also in negotiations with our airline partners to provide solo traveller flight cabins in the future, with live entertainment options and additional services such as designated happy hours and canapes ensuring a much more exclusive and social air travel experience. ”
