Instagram has become every holiday-maker and traveller’s preferred social media platform when it comes to sharing pictures of their adventures and the places they visit.

Global travel site Big 7 Travel, which is part of Big 7 Media, has put together the official list of the ‘World’s Most Instagrammable Countries 2019’, and South Africa ranked as one of the top places to capture the perfect Insta-worthy picture.

Every country on the list was ranked in order of their visual appeal and popularity on social media. These factors were analysed by looking at the number of hashtags per destination, feedback from an extensive survey of Big 7 Travel’s audience of 1.5-million and votes from a panel of travel experts.

Big 7 Travel also includes the seven best spots to visit in each of the countries for getting amazing Instagram photos.

South Africa came in at number five on the list after achieving a rating of 80.94%. This number one spot went to Australia, which scored 89.98%, followed by Hong Kong in second place with a score of 86.99%, Canada third with 82.84%, and Indonesia fourth with 81.10%.

South Africa’s Diving Board in Kasteelport, Table Mountain, Cape Town

This is South Africa’s best Instagrammable spot. The hike to the Diving Board starts in Camps Bay on the west of the Peninsula and finishes at the Cableway, via Kasteelspoort Hiking Trail.

A large percentage of SA’s rating is thanks to Cape Town’s “endless natural beauty and clifftop views, pastel pink neighbourhoods and turquoise waters,” as described by Big 7 Travel. “Cape Town is an Instagrammer’s dream location to visit.”

These are the places where you’ll find sweeping stretches of beach, ancient monuments, kitsch cocktail bars, and more street art than you can possibly imagine.
