Ask most Capetonians where The Radisson Blue is and more often than not you’ll get Granger Bay as the answer. But as I recently found out, it has a stylish sister hotel just up the road called The Radisson Blu Le Vendome – an increasingly popular destination choice for visitors to Cape Town.

The location of Radisson Bue Le Vendome is about as important as it sounds – Platinum Mile. This stretch of prime beachfront in Sea Point is one of the Cape’s most sought after residential areas and is nowadays boasting minimal levels of petty crime. It makes for an ideal base for visitors wanting to be central to an affluent and vibrant part of the city, and the perfect business location owing to its modern conference facilities with high-speed internet.

La Mer is the hotel’s fine dining little gem complete with laid-back lounge tunes and a very efficient team. Our server Andile was on the ball with attentiveness and was highly knowledgeable about the components of the various dishes. For starters, you’ll find dishes like a grilled halloumi salad, and a butternut and parmesan risotto. Mains selection includes a delightful fillet served with a steaming red wine jus (pictured below), Karoo lamb loin and a tantalizing olive-encrusted, pan fried linefish item to name a few. Work up your appetite beforehand by taking an evening stroll along the Promenade.

The Super Breakfast Buffet, as it is called at Radisson Blu Le Vendome, is as super as it sounds. I piled my waffles high with bacon and syrup as one should when hitting up a superior buffet. There’s something about waking up to as much breakfast food as you can eat, the rest of the day is always a breeze.

Spend a night or two (or three if you just can’t get enough of those sunsets) here and immerse yourself in a part of Cape Town’s upbeat, beachfront culture.
