Are you dreaming of travelling overseas this year? If you plan on visiting some exotic locations, but are unsure about visa requirements, the good news is that there are now more countries for South Africans to visit without applying for travel documents.
We can now visit up to 94 countries without a visa, according to a Passport Index.
The index ranks travel documents according to the number of countries that can be visited without applying for a visa.
The most powerful passport belongs to Germany, which allows passport holders to travel to 161 countries. Passport holders from Singapore, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Italy, France and Spain can travel to 160 countries. A total of 199 passports were included in the index.
The top passports in Africa belong to Seychelles and Mauritius, which allow holders to travel to 130 and 124 countries respectively.
South Africa ranks 47 on the index, with a score of 94 – an improvement on its 2017 score of 90.
Angola, Mauritius, Micronesia, Russia, Qatar and Senegal are now visa-free, while Gabon, Turkey and Ghana have moved to visa-on-arrival status.
Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) is now an Electronic Travel Authority destination.
