Emily Moon is a place I never really wanted to leave. I had read the near-perfect TripAdvisor reviews of the boutique lodge that overlooks the Bitou river, and I needed to see it for myself.

And what a place it is. Nestled in a picturesque surrounding that is reminiscent of the English moors, Emily Moon is an ideal destination for couples, weddings and honeymoon trips with its quirky touches and distinctly African feel.

Ten lodges make up the accommodation at Emily Moon; these being six luxury suites, two honeymoon suites and two family suites. The luxury suite we stayed for the night in came complete with its own private deck that overlooked the countryside and all the modern touches one can expect in an upscale, four-star establishment. A beautiful bohemian theme exists right throughout Emily Moon from each individual lodge to the dining areas.

But now for the food. In my opinion Emily’s Restaurant could very well be the best dining option on the Garden Route. Most of the fresh produce used in the kitchen at the restaurant is grown on the premises and the rest is sourced locally from organic farmers. The menu has a little something for everybody and I will have fond memories for years to come of that Seared Tuna Steak, served with Caper Aioli, Roasted Red Peppers, Baby Potatoes and Calamata Olives. The exciting cocktail menu is definitely worth looking into as well.

Simon’s Bar, located above Emily’s already has the claim of best pizzas in the Garden Route but due to timing we could only try one of their restaurants on the night and went with Emily’s. Next time we will be back for Simon’s!

There are a horde of activities to do while using Emily Moon as a base. The lodge offers canoeing along the Bitou river, bird-watching, hiking and mountain biking and further away travellers can visit the iconic Central Beach in Plettenberg Bay or visit the historic site of the Robberg peninsula, once inhabited by the indigenous Khoi people.

Emily Moon is definitely worth a visit for local and international travellers. Every detail is taken into consideration to ensure a classy stay at a top-notch lodge that is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the country.
