The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department is facilitating the roll-out of pressure management technology to various parts of the Mother City’s water supply network. On Wednesday, the city thanked residents for their continued cooperation of reducing water consumption, and apologised in advance for any convince these plans may have caused.
The City has identified 25 areas that will benefit from the water pressure technology over the coming months, and contractors have been brought in to speed up the installation.
Zero pressure testing (a test that checks whether a particular area in a water system is watertight) will take place on 21 June 2018 in Sacks Circle, Bellville South between 8pm and 4am, on 23 June 2018 in Vierlanden, Durmonte, Klein Nederburg, Bergsig and Wellway Park in the Durbanville area around the same times. Pressure-related work is also scheduled in the Kuils River and Eikenbosch areas on Thursday 21 June 2018 from 10am to 4pm.
The benefits of the pressure management technology include lowering consumption and reducing water lost due to leaks or pipe bursts by better managing the pressure within the pipe systems and the amount of water that is loss if these incidents occur.
Residents are encouraged to store up to a maximum of 10 litres of water for essential use, if required during these periods. Affected areas won’t experience extended periods of interruptions during the installations. Residents are also encouraged to keep taps closed to prevent water loss once the water is restored.
The city ensures great consideration will be applied at all times during these installation periods to ensure minimal disruption.
