Dust off your umbrellas, Capetonians – we’re in for a wet Wednesday.

Rainfall is almost guaranteed late tomorrow as heavy clouds bring precipitation from the Atlantic Ocean, dumping as much as a potential 10mm over the Cape Town area.

Crucial mountain catchment areas such as Steenbras may even see up to 20mm of rain.

The moderate cold front making its way to Cape Town should hit during Wednesday afternoon.

In addition to the rain forecast, there is a citywide bus strike which will see MyCiti and Golden Arrow bus services suspended from Wednesday until the end of the strike. Commuters and residents will need to factor both the strike and the rain into their travel plans as the roads are expected to be extremely congested.

The forecast downpour is no excuse to let water saving efforts slip though, as the City of Cape Town warned we are far from out of the woods in terms of the water shortage. Usage increased by 5% last week, leaving damn levels suffering.
