The annual Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes, Africa’s biggest sixes tournament, will once again take place from the February 14-16, 2020. The festival, now in its 5th year, has more than doubled in size going from 40 teams in 2016 to over 100 teams booked for 2020.
Cape Town’s most loved sporting and lifestyle festival continues to gain in popularity and this year’s is certainly not to be missed. This year the festival will be held for the first time at the iconic Western Province Cricket Club in Rondebosch, taking the sport back to its roots in the Southern Suburbs. The venue is situated on the doorstep of Newlands Cricket Stadium and boasts large open fields, an entertainment area and bar, perfect for a weekend of fun-filled activities and entertainment.
The festival traditionally focused on cricket as its core sport with the addition of the popular six- a-side soccer leagues in 2017 and this year the founders are excited to announce that they will be adding touch and tag rugby leagues.
The Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes incorporates men’s, women’s and junior leagues welcoming players across all skill levels by allowing entrants to participate in the social league, lager league, development league and the much-anticipated VIP Corporate Cup. Players from all over the world enter their teams, some as far away as Dubai and Qatar, making the Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes a prominent sporting event on the international calendar.
Teams that would like to participate in the six-a-side soccer and touch rugby will be able to play in divisions according to their own skill level too. There are three leagues for soccer and two leagues for touch rugby. Each team entered is guaranteed four games with group matches on Saturday February 15 and finals on the Sunday February 16.
Sporting aside, there is much more to the Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes this year that isn’t as strenuous as trying to hit a wicket. On offer throughout the whole weekend will be a selection of artisanal food stands and local pop-up restaurants. The global food village aims to have a dish from each of the countries participating in the matches. After grabbing a bite you’re feeling energetic enough you can take on the Southern Comfort cycle challenge where you cycle to mix your own zingy margarita! If you are looking for something for the whole family to enjoy, then bring the little ones along to be entertained at the Playstation Adventure Park complete with rides, games and face-painting its sure to keep them happy all day long.
To eat, head on to the Hendricks Gin Bar lounge to cool down with an ice cold G&T and if music is one of the main attractions at each of the Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes weekends and this year the founders are excited to share that Goodluck will be the Saturday evening headline act. No additional tickets other than your Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes entrance ticket will be required to attend this incredible concert sponsored by the Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes. The music line-up for the rest of the weekend consists of the ever popular Rivertones, Tim Smal and many more DJs and bands still to be released.
Bringing about positive change and providing a platform for sports development within local communities is one the main pillars of the Cape Town Cricket Sixes. #HitPovertyforaSix driven by Ryan Christian, allows children from local communities and townships to train at special clinics coached by past legends of the game such as Allan Donald and Meyrick Pringle. These special development teams will also be given team entries to play alongside the other teams during the tournament and their very own cricket heroes!
