Relax, take it easy this World Meditation Day. Today I remind myself that it’s okay to take several chill pills. My favourite ways to wind down range from a Deepak Chopra guided meditation to taking a quick breath with the HeadSpace App, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Jay-tee Davidson.

If you’re looking for a way to wind down on this Friday, here are three effective ways to chill out on World Meditation Day.

Let an App guide you

If you struggle to catch your breath during meditation, let one of these apps lead you. Soothe your mind as you are guided into a state of bliss.

  1. Calm
  2. Headspace
  3. Gaia
  4. Insight Timer
  5. Aura

Pop into a local meditation centre

From breathwork to refreshing your mind, these are the cool, calm and collected spaces you should visit. Grab a friend and make an event out of it!

DIY meditations that will have you soaring

You can meditate anywhere, even if you only have two minutes on the clock. Here are a few short but sweet ways to escape the noise.

Express your Gratitude

Do you have 1 minute to spare? Find a comfy chair to sit in. Take a deep breath as you close your eyes. Continue taking loving inhales and exhales as you evoke gratitude for your body. Thank your beating heart and breath. Then begin to expand your gratitude to those you love, moments you cherish or being able to see another day. The world is your oyster. Do this for even one minute and I promise you will feel like sunshine!

Count your Breath

  1. Sit up straight and close your eyes, let your breath flow naturally.
  2. Mentally count to one with your inhale, slowly release your breath.
  3. Take another inhale, count to two and exhale gently.
  4. Continue doing this for as long as you feel, remember to count as you go.

Try to do this for ten minutes.
