If you haven’t climbed onto the kombucha train yet, hop aboard. We love kombucha tea for its refreshing taste, flavour and sparkling goodness, but most of all, we love its many health benefits. We take a look at what this fantastic drink is good for.
This delicious tea is made by adding specific strains of bacteria, yeast and sugar to black or green tea, then allowing it to ferment for a number of days.
According to Healthline, kombucha is rich in probiotics, which promotes digestive health. Probiotics help to keep the bacteria balance in your body on point, and it can also treat uncomfortable conditions like diarrhea or a bloated stomach. Because this drink is rich in tea polyphenols and acetic acid, it can help suppress the growth of undesirable bacteria and yeasts in the body to prevent infections.
Kombucha is also rich in antioxidants, and studies have shown that in rats, it protected their livers from toxins.
Another interesting benefit has come to light from recent research. Kombucha could aid in combatting mental health challenges. Studies have found there may be a link between probiotics and depression, according to Medical News Today.
Depression and inflammation sometimes go hand-in-hand, so the anti-inflammatory effect of kombucha may help in the management of some symptoms of depression.
However, more research needs to be done on the specific role of probiotics in persons living with depression to confirm a direct positive effect.
