The world seems to be filled with superhumans. Moms that rush from one activity to the next, entrepreneurs managing multiple businesses and all while eating their greens, getting their recommended eight glasses of water a day and hitting the gym.
But what makes them so special? Well, they’ve learned the art of time management, or rather, how to be more efficient. “Time is only wasted if it isn’t well-spent. And it’s only well-spent if you decide that it is.”
Here are a few ways you can become more efficient and manage your time better:
Learn how to prioritise
Take a moment before you start your day to ask yourself the following questions: What is the most important thing to accomplish today? What are tasks that I can leave for a bit later? When you label your tasks or responsibilities as “important,” you can get those out of the way before moving on to other tasks that may not be as important. This helps you create a structure in your mind and prevents you from feeling as though “you’re all over the place.”
Have a morning routine
From Richard Branson to Oprah Winfrey, having a morning routine has been equated to success. While no morning routine is the same, a healthy breakfast, exercise and some form of reading are always included. “I find structure to start and finish the day helps me to focus and achieve the things I need to,” states Branson.
Learn to say “no”
It’s not always easy to use this word, but indulging your “people-pleasing” behaviour can leave you with more on your plate than you can manage. We cannot commit to every task, and sometimes we need to feel awkward and upset a few people to respect our boundaries and time.
Eliminate Waste
Perhaps you spent an hour scrolling through Instagram or had a “quick” chat around the water cooler. When attempting to become more efficient, it’s time to cut the fluff. Unfortunately, time is a finite resource, and the minutes keep ticking away. If you’re looking to manage your time better, use those small moments to accomplish something on your list.
