Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no getting around the fact that exercise is good for us. However, with such little time in the day, finding a moment to hit the gym can be half the battle. To help make the most of your workout, here are five ways you can optimize your time in the gym (or at home) to help get those washboard abs.

Start planning

You should always have a plan when heading into battle, and that includes a plan of action before you start pumping the endorphins. Having a well-thought-out plan will not only make a huge difference to your routine, but it will help keep you accountable. If you’re someone who prefers group classes, make sure you sign up online and add it to your calendar. 

Add a splash of caffeine

Caffeine addicts rejoice! Research shows that adding a cup of joe to your pre-workout routine will not only help add a pep in your step during your morning Zumba class, but it may actually make exercise feel more enjoyable. Boost your performance by drinking a cup of coffee at least half an hour before you start pumping the iron. 

Don’t forget to hydrate

Hydration is the key to ensuring that our bodies perform at their best. Water is the best drink to help quench your thirst and replace fluid lost during exercise, so make sure you’re chugging two to three cups of water at least an hour before your workout. Yes, not just during, but before.

Create the perfect playlist

There’s nothing that alters a human’s mood more than music. While having equipment and ensuring that you warm-up is essential, so is having the right mindset. Adding your favourite beats to your music playlist may just help get you excited about your workout, boosting your energy and making you feel ready for a killer workout. 

Indulge in self-care

Is there anything that a little self-care can’t fix? Creating a post-workout recovery ritual is a great way to repair and strengthen your body after an incredible workout. Whether you choose to take a warm bath or whip up a nutritious meal, self-care helps to recharge your body so that you stay motivated and ready for your next workout.
